About a La MOD
a La MOD is a boutique destination for vintage furniture enthusiasts and design lovers, founded by James Claude and architect Miguel Angel Linares. James Claude opened his first store at just 15 years old in Adelanto, California, and in 1996 launched what would become a La MOD. Located at 870 E Research Drive in Palm Springs, the store has evolved from a high-end vintage consignment shop into a hub of eclectic, artisanal furnishings and artwork that celebrate design history and its influence on the contemporary sphere.
What Makes Them Special
a La MOD is not a consignment store — every item in the shop is vintage and has been beautifully restored to showcase its original craftsmanship. Co-founder Miguel Linares brings an architect's eye to the curation, ensuring each piece meets exacting standards of design integrity. The store amplifies its focus on objects that bridge past and present, regularly featuring select new artists and sculptors with retro-inspired designs alongside investment-grade vintage furnishings.
Designers & Brands
The showroom regularly features works by acclaimed designers and manufacturers including:
Karl Springer – luxurious lacquered and leather-wrapped furniture
Arthur Elrod – legendary Palm Springs interior designer
Steve Chase – celebrated desert modernist interior designer
Charles Hollis Jones – pioneering Lucite and acrylic furniture designer
Knoll – iconic modern furniture manufacturer
Charles & Ray Eames – definitive mid-century modern seating and storage
